Who We Are
The Board for Integrated Rural Development (BIRD) is more than just an organization — it is a movement of hope, dignity, and resilience. Founded in 2007 with a vision of empowering people left on the margins of society, BIRD is a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political development agency registered under the Directorate of Youth Development (2008) and the Department of Social Welfare (2009).
For over 15 years, BIRD has walked hand-in-hand with rural families, women, youth, persons with disabilities, and climate-affected communities across Bangladesh. What began as a small initiative has today grown into a trusted community partner known for integrated, innovative, and inclusive development models that bridge gaps in poverty reduction, health access, digital safety, migration protection, and climate justice.
We believe that development is not charity—it is about unlocking potential, restoring dignity, and creating opportunities for people to thrive with independence and pride.

Our Strategy 2025–2050
BIRD’s long-term vision is guided by one principle: true development must be people-centered, inclusive, innovative, and sustainable. Our 25-year strategy is not a short-term project cycle—it is a systemic transformation agenda that aligns with:
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Bangladesh Vision 2041
COP Climate Goals & Paris Agreement
1. Human-Centered Development: Dignity → Empowerment → Sustainability
We begin with dignity. Every individual, regardless of gender, disability, or background, must feel valued and respected. Our programs move people from basic dignity (access to health, education, safety) to empowerment (skills, leadership, income), and finally to sustainability (self-reliance, resilience, community institutions).
🔹 Why it matters for donors: Investments generate long-term, self-driven change, reducing aid dependency.
2. Capacity Development First: Training → Employment → Entrepreneurship
Our approach follows a 3-step ladder:
Training in climate-resilient farming, digital literacy, vocational skills.
Employment through partnerships with employers, industries, and government.
Entrepreneurship via access to microfinance, cooperatives, and market linkages.
🔹 Why it matters for donors: Every dollar spent on training creates measurable outcomes in jobs, businesses, and income security.
3. Innovation in Health & Climate
We prepare communities for tomorrow’s challenges with technology and climate solutions:
Telehealth and AI diagnostics for rural health access.
Renewable energy (solar, biogas) to power homes and enterprises.
Climate-resilient agriculture (salt-tolerant crops, floating farms, eco-tourism).
Green jobs for youth and women.
🔹 Why it matters for donors: Projects are scalable, innovative, and climate-finance aligned, making them attractive for co-funding.
4. Donor Alignment & Strong Governance
BIRD is committed to being a trusted, transparent partner:
Impact tracking through dashboards and real-time monitoring.
Clear reporting aligned with SDG indicators.
Co-financing and global partnerships (INGOs, UN, CSR, and development banks).
Strong governance with audits and digital accountability.
🔹 Why it matters for donors: Maximum accountability, visibility, and credibility for every contribution.
5. Radical Inclusivity: No One Left Behind
At the heart of our work are the most vulnerable:
Women and Girls → leadership, protection, and entrepreneurship.
Migrants → safe migration, reintegration, diaspora engagement.
Persons with Disabilities → rehabilitation, adaptive livelihoods.
Youth → skills, innovation labs, digital safety.
Climate Victims → relocation, recovery, and livelihood restoration.
🔹 Why it matters for donors: Funding directly supports equity, justice, and social cohesion.
6. Sustainability Model: Beyond Aid Dependency
BIRD is building a hybrid financing model for independence:
Donor funds for catalytic programs.
Social enterprises (agro-business, renewable energy, eco-tourism) reinvesting profits in communities.
Public-private partnerships with government and private sector.
CSR collaborations with businesses.
🔹 Why it matters for donors: Investments act as seed capital for lasting, self-sustaining systems.
